Passion for research and innovation related to integrating renewable energy technologies into distribution networks using data.

Dr Brendan Banfield graduated from the University of Wollongong (UOW) in 2016 with a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering. During this time, Brendan also worked as an Undergraduate Electrical Engineer for Evoenergy (then ActewAGL Distribution).

In 2017, Brendan returned to UOW to undertake a PhD and lead a team of students building the Desert Rose House; Australia's first smart, net positive energy dementia friendly home. The Desert Rose achieved 2nd place overall at the Solar Decathlon Middle East 2018 in Dubai against 15 collegiate teams from 11 different countries.

After the Solar Decathlon, Brendan returned to Australia to complete his PhD which related to the optimal control of distributed energy resources (DER) in buildings and distribution networks. In 2020, he co-founded Gridsight, a start-up that uses big data analytics and machine learning to assist electrical distributors in managing networks with large quantities of embedded DER.
