CLIENT IMPACT
“Australia leads the world in rooftop solar adoption, and Endeavour Energy is at the forefront of that transition. Gridsight has been an invaluable strategic partner since 2021, helping us embrace AI and make data-led decisions on how we connect, manage, flex and plan our network. We’ve doubled customers’ solar export capacity within our existing poles and wires, are operating the grid closer to its full potential, and delivering better value for our customers. We're proud of our partnership with Gridsight and the work we’re doing to accelerate Australia's energy transition.”

CHALLENGE

Rooftop solar was outgrowing static grid limits

Australia leads the world in rooftop solar adoption, with more than 40% of homes now generating solar and uptake exceeding 80% in parts of Endeavour Energy’s network.

For Endeavour customers, that meant operating within a conservative, static 5 kW solar export limit, even when more network capacity was available.

Endeavour needed a way to understand available capacity dynamically, allowing more customers to export more solar while maintaining network safety and reliability.
More
Static operating assumptions give way to dynamic, constraint-aware operating limits.
Operations shift from reactive to proactive.
Manual analysis is replaced with automated, repeatable workflows.
SOLUTION

Turning real-time visibility into dynamic capacity

Gridsight builds a Foundational Grid Model using smart meter and network data to give Endeavour a live view of its low-voltage grid. By modelling network conditions in real time, Endeavour can see where capacity is available and where constraints are emerging, replacing static assumptions with a clearer picture of what the grid can actually support.

Building on that foundational model, Gridsight’s Flexibility product powers Endeavour’s Flexible Exports service. Gridsight’s AI engine assesses real-time, local network conditions to determine precise export limits at the household level. Instead of applying the same conservative limit at all times, Endeavour can increase exports when capacity is available and manage them when local constraints emerge.
More
Utilities are being asked to connect more distributed energy resources, operate their networks more flexibly, and only invest in upgrades precisely where and when they are needed — while maintaining safety, reliability, and resiliency.
Utilities lack a unified, DER-aware decision layer to support fast, repeatable engineering decisions.
Results

More affordable renewable energy from the existing grid

Flexible Exports is now operational across Endeavour’s network, allowing participating customers to increase solar export limits from 5 kW to as much as 10 kW. In a measured 12-month cohort, 359 customers exported 171 MWh of solar that otherwise would have been curtailed.

The benefit extends beyond the network. By enabling customers to export more solar, Flexible Exports can accelerate their return on investment, with additional earnings estimated at approximately $200 per year. It also allows Endeavour to support more customers adopting solar, so capacity isn't limited to those who connected first.

Endeavour projects Flexible Exports will unlock approximately 600 MW of additional renewable capacity and put more than $100 million back in customers’ pockets through increased solar export earnings.

The result is a new dynamic approach to capacity management: understanding and allocating capacity that is already available in real time.
CLIENT IMPACT
“Our customers are actively driving the energy transition with residential solar uptake passing 80% in some areas. The demands on network operators have fundamentally changed, which makes our partnership with Gridsight so important. As electrification increases, the challenge is how do you double what the grid can do, without doubling the size of the grid. Gridsight's Visibility and Flexibility products have helped us double customer solar export capacity without building new infrastructure, using data to make better use of the grid and unlock approximately 600 MW of additional capacity and putting $100 million back in customers’ pockets.”
